Honey Butter

Interested in making your own homemade honey butter? This recipe is quick, adaptable, and soooo delicious. 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3–5 tablespoons Champlain Valley Apiaries raw honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon flaky or fine sea salt
  • Optional:
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • splash of vanilla extract
    • tiny pinch of cayenne for heat

Instructions

  1. Let the butter soften at room temperature until easily spreadable.
  2. Beat the butter with a fork, whisk, or hand mixer until fluffy.
  3. Add the raw honey gradually, mixing as you go.
  4. Stir in salt and any optional flavorings.
  5. Taste and adjust:
    • more honey for sweeter/spreadable
    • more salt for balance
  6. Store in a jar or covered dish.

Storage

  • Refrigerator: about 2 weeks
  • Room temperature: a few days if your kitchen is cool and you’ll use it quickly

If refrigerated, let it sit out 10–15 minutes before serving.

 

Ways to Eat Honey Butter

Breakfast

  • Toast, biscuits, English muffins
  • Pancakes or waffles
  • Cornbread
  • Warm oatmeal stirred in at the end

Savory Uses

  • Melt over roasted sweet potatoes
  • Brush onto carrots or squash
  • Finish grilled salmon or pork chops
  • Spread on fried chicken sandwiches
  • Melt onto popcorn with a little chili powder

Baking

  • Swirl into banana bread batter
  • Use on scones
  • Spread between layers of quick breads
  • Melt over fresh baked rolls

Mix up the recipe with these flavor variation!

Cinnamon Honey Butter: Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg. Great for biscuits and sweet potatoes.

Hot Honey Butter: Add cayenne, red pepper flakes, and smoked paprika. Excellent on fried chicken or cornbread.

Herb Honey Butter: Add chopped rosemary or thyme and black pepper. Very good on roasted vegetables or dinner rolls.
